The app
In short
This app collects nothing about your child. There is no account, no cloud and no analytics. No profiling, no ads, no nudges to share data – the app keeps everything on the device.
What is stored on the device
The app only remembers what it needs to carry on: which facts your child already knows well, which ones are being practised, where they are on the learning path, and the chosen settings (sound, language). For each child it keeps only a name or nickname and a colour that you enter yourself in the grown-ups area. All of this stays in the app’s storage on your device. We have no access to it. The app never asks for an age or date of birth. The app is excluded from Android’s cloud backup and device transfer: a new installation really starts fresh, and you get the purchase back with “Restore purchase”.
Voice and sounds
All spoken instructions, praise and sounds are audio files inside the app – they are played, not downloaded. The app does not use the device’s text-to-speech and does not pass any text to third parties. It records nothing and does not access the microphone.
Internet, permissions and the purchase
The app itself does not connect to any server – neither ours nor anyone else’s; we don’t run any. It does not access the microphone, camera, contacts or location.
The installed app has two permissions, which come from a built-in purchase library: internet access and checking the network status. The purchase itself is handled by the Amazon Appstore app on the device. We use these permissions for nothing: there are no ads, no analytics and no sharing of data with third parties.
In the For grown-ups area, “Send feedback” opens your email app and “Rate the app” opens the app’s page in the Amazon Appstore. The app only passes on a link; it reads nothing and sends nothing by itself. What you write goes straight from your email app to us. Only the subject line and the app version with the name of the store are filled in.
What happens when you buy
The app is free to download; one purchase unlocks all rounds for good. The purchase is handled entirely by the Amazon Appstore. Payment and order data are created there, and Amazon is responsible for them, not us. What Amazon passes on to us is described under “The app store”.
In the app, the only trace of the purchase is a note on the device that it was bought. The app needs no account or sign-in for this: the purchase is restored from the purchase history of the Amazon account that is already set up on the device.
The app store
If you downloaded the app from an app store, the store operator collects its own data about the download and installation and is responsible for it, not us. Google and Amazon give us only order data needed for accounting and tax (order number, country and, in some countries, region and postal code) – never a name or email address.
Children
The app does not collect any personal information from children. It has no accounts, no chat and cannot send us anything by itself. If a child emails us anyway, we use the email address only to reply once, do not use it for anything else, do not share it and delete the message promptly after replying. Parents can ask us at any time to find and delete such a message: kontakt@remindery.de.
Deleting data
Because everything stays on the device, you delete all of the app’s data by uninstalling it or by clearing its data in the Android settings. We don’t need to do anything – we hold nothing.
Email from adults
This applies to emails from the app and from this website. We use your message only to answer you and delete it once your enquiry has been dealt with.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if your message is about a purchase, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR – our legitimate interest in answering you. Our mailbox is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Gunzenhausen (Germany), under a data processing agreement.
This website
Hosting (GitHub Pages)
This website is hosted by GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, as a “GitHub Pages” site. When you open a page, GitHub processes technically necessary data in server logs, in particular your device’s IP address. The purpose is to deliver the page and to keep it running securely and reliably. We ourselves have no access to these logs.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR – our legitimate interest in operating the website securely and reliably. Transfer to the USA: GitHub is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and additionally offers Standard Contractual Clauses as a safeguard. GitHub decides how long the logs are kept; for details, see GitHub’s privacy statement: https://docs.github.com/privacy
No cookies, no external resources
This website sets no cookies and embeds no external fonts, scripts or trackers – all resources are served from the same server. That is why there is no cookie banner here: there is nothing to consent to.
Links to app stores
The store badges on this website are stored on our own server. A link to Google Play or the Amazon Appstore is only followed when you click it; before that, no data goes to Google or Amazon. Once you follow a link, the respective provider processes data as its own controller, and its privacy policy applies.
Your rights and complaints
Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR, you have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20), and the right to object (Art. 21).
Right to object under Art. 21 GDPR: Where we process data on the basis of our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) – the server logs of this website and the handling of your emails – you can object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. We will then stop processing the data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights and freedoms.
In the app itself these rights have nothing to act on, because we hold no data about you or your child. They do apply to emails you send us. For the server logs, GitHub is the right addressee, as we have no access to them; for purchases, payment data and purchase history, Google or Amazon.
If you have a complaint, please contact us first at kontakt@remindery.de. We confirm receipt within 30 days and tell you what we are doing about it. You can also complain to a data protection authority: in the UK to the Information Commissioner’s Office (https://ico.org.uk), in the EU to the authority in the country where you live.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of the app or the operation of this website requires different processing, we will update this policy, publish it in the app and on this page, and change the date at the top. The version published here applies.
